McKenzie Leisher Spotlight

Math always came easy to McKenzie and she knew she wanted to be a math teacher in elementary school!  She grew up helping her classmates with their math, and knew she wanted to make a career of it because she enjoyed helping so much.  McKenzie graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 2008 and accepted her first teaching job in Wheeler, Texas.  In 2022, she accepted her current position as a coach and the Junior High & High School Dean of Students at Beaver!

MCKENZIE’S WHY:  “I love building positive relationships with students. Teaching is so much more than pushing out curriculum. The art of teaching is to get to know your students and know how each one learns and to know how to get the most out of each student. My reason that I keep coming back each year is the students. I love the daily interactions and the "ah ha" moments when they finally understand a concept!”

MCKENZIE’S JOY IN EDUCATION:  “When a student gives me a high five or a fist bump and they tell me that they truly enjoy my class, that just makes my day. This is my 14th year to teach and I still wake up each morning eager to go to work.”
