Jan graduated from BHS and went to Panhandle State on a music scholarship, majoring in music and business education. While in college, she married Guy Payne, who was attending OPSU on a rodeo scholarship. A year later, they returned to Beaver to have their first child, Abby and go to work on her family's ranch. Four kids (Abby, Barby, Will & Wade) and 15 years later, Jan returned to OPSU to finish her degree. In August 1995, Jan was hired to teach at Beaver! She retired in May 2020, but substituted whenever possible. Jan now teaches Junior High Reading for a half day at Beaver!
JAN’S WHY: “The kids… Work skills are what I taught for years, it is more important that ever today. Learning to be responsible, thorough and proud of a job well done was my goal. I wanted to be able to help them get the skills and knowledge they needed to succeed later in life, to make them successful in their jobs.”
JAN’S GOOD DAY IN THE CLASSROOM: “A good day is when I see them smile at a piece in a book we are reading or find them enjoying an activity we did in my computer classes of past. A good day is when I know they are happy, safe and loved. A good day is when I see them succeed in class or in life!”
JAN PAYNE… a DUSTER DIFFERENCE MAKER!! It’s a GREAT DAY to be a DUSTER!!!
